Wingdings Alphabet

Click a symbol to copy it. Letter case matters.

Unicode equivalents of the original character positions. The space character is shown as a blank cell.

Reading the chart

The small label is the original character; the large symbol is its Wingdings equivalent. Changing the font version changes the entire mapping. Uppercase A and lowercase a produce different symbols.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Read the alphabet as a character map

Each cell shows a source letter beneath its symbol. Click a cell to copy the symbol rather than the letter. The page includes both uppercase and lowercase English letters, because the original fonts give them separate assignments. A Wingdings alphabet is therefore a reference for character substitution, not a new writing system with independent spelling rules. Start with a word whose letter case you know, and follow its letters across the chart to see how the mapping works.

Why A and a do not match

The uppercase and lowercase halves of the alphabet occupy different character positions. In Wingdings 1, A becomes ✌ while a becomes ♋; B becomes 🖏 while b becomes ♌. The pictures have no necessary relationship to the sound or meaning of those letters. Capitalizing a sentence before conversion produces a different symbol sequence and changes the case recovered by decoding. When comparing a fan message with a chart, check whether its author used uppercase before assuming that a symbol is wrong.

Change the version before matching a message

Use the selector to compare Wingdings 1, 2, and 3. Version 1 includes familiar pictograms and zodiac signs; version 2 includes hands, checkboxes, and enclosed numbers; version 3 contains many arrows. The same letter can have a different symbol in each collection. If several symbols in a message do not fit, check its version before trying to infer words from context. For digits, punctuation, and additional character positions, continue to the full Wingdings chart.

Copyable symbols versus the original typeface

This chart uses Unicode equivalents so you can copy symbols without installing Wingdings. The destination app chooses the glyph it displays, which can change the outline or turn a familiar icon into an emoji. A copied Unicode symbol is different from typing a letter in Word and applying the original Wingdings font. Both can look similar, but their underlying text is different. When teaching or making puzzles, state which representation you are using and include a readable answer key.

Frequently asked questions

Does the alphabet include numbers?

This page focuses on A–Z and a–z. Open the full chart for numbers, punctuation, and other character positions.

Can I decode a complete sentence with this chart?

Yes, one symbol at a time. The Wingdings to English converter is quicker for symbols you can copy and paste directly.

Why does a letter display as a zodiac sign?

The font assigns a picture to that character position. The picture is not a translation of the letter’s sound or meaning.
